Design Walk is a biannual festival dedicated to graphic design. It is also a cultural and educational stroll within the neighborhood of Psirri in the center of Athens, a creative experience and a unique platform for the promotion of contemporary Greek design.
By 2007, the neighborhood of Psirri with its sharp contrasts and unique geographical position had already gathered a large number of new creative businesses. This particular situation gave birth to the idea of Design Walk: every year, in early February and for three days, the creative studios located in Psirri would open their doors to the public, presenting projects designed and developed exclusively for this event.
From the beginning, Design Walk had set two key goals: to bring the public closer to the art of graphic design and visual communication and to create a field of free expression and communication between design professionals and the public.
Between 2007 and 2010, Design Walk presented collaborations between the studios, designers and visual artists from Greece and abroad, exhibitions that dealt with the limits of design and the role of the designer in today’s reality, the creative process and design’s relationship to other art forms, as well as a series of workshops, firm screenings and themed parties.
Design Walk – with more than 5 years of experience and as a biannual event from now on – has evolved into a multifaceted festival for contemporary design expression, a platform for experimentation and exchange of ideas between Greek & foreign artists, designers and the general public.
Design Walk is organised by "Design Walk" Cultural non-Profit Organisation and Olympia Aivazi, Alexandros Gavrilakis, Michalis Georgiou, Michael Ochs, Rena Chrysikopoulou. Design Walk would not have been possible without the valuable contribution of Dionysis Lebanon and Marie Sotos and all all the designers and creative agencies who have honored us with their participation from the start until today.
